Nena St. Louis is a multimedia sculptor working in wood,
paint, textiles and other materials, exploring psychic depths,
primal themes, and issues of the day through her medium.

Over the years her mastery of themes, tools and materials
has deeply matured. A reviewer once commented that her
"stormy expressionist ... sculpture" allows us into "an
intensely private realm … people tend to gravitate
towards her lifesize totems as if they are mangled
reflections and refractions of themselves."

Subjects of her work have included Joan of Arc and
women of India who once followed their
husbands to the funeral pyre.
Yet there is something strangely welcoming
and accessible in the way she shapes wood
and textiles and paint to give voice
to intimate themes we may come to
recognize as also our own.
